I just finished this second installment of this series. Normally I am not a follower of the science fiction genre, but made this story an exception. I was not disappointed. I gave it a four star rating and look forward your next book. keep up the good work. Great storyline!
Received copy for review. What a pleasant surprise a mystery with realistic characters and a plot worth following. Looking for a summer mystery worth your time this is the one.
I have not read the first book of the series, so there was some time to get used to the characters. The main woman is described quite well and I get her position between cultures, though it was a while to realize that she is actually quite young and not old despite the references to a cane. The story is a pretty standard murder mystery with layers and redirection. The murderer came out of left field for me but was adequately explained.
I really enjoyed the setting. The British Empire timeperiod with a lot of nice (but subtle) Steampunk-y elements is very cool. They however sit in the background of the story.
All in all a decent read, but nothing that blew me away.
This is a worthy second installment in this series of Steampunk novellas. There are a satisfying number of twists and turns. Mahila is a well-drawn character and I look forward to following her adventures.

I hope the author turns these novella's into full-blown novels so we can learn more about the steampunk world he has created.
Another well written book by the author. His character, Maliha Anderson, is intelligent, strong, and interesting. The murder is gruesome, which isn't telling any secrets, I believe, but should be mentioned. But the murder is just the beginning. This story has depth, interesting characters (I hope we see Mr. Crier in future stories! I like him very much), and the steampunk setting is well done. I enjoyed this one as much as the first, and intend to keep reading sequels as they come out.

I received a copy in return for an honest review. This is an excellent sequel that carefully continues the world and character development. The plot has twists and turns that are interesting while still building on everything that was established in the previous book. The prose and story remain tight without a scrap of surplus to be seen. The entire thing is wonderfully British which is used to add deeper ideas and meaning to the entire thing. All in all, a fantastic book that will appeal to lovers of mysteries.
Excellent follow up to Murder Out of the Blue. One always wonders if the second will be as good as the first, this one does not disappoint. There are better distractions from the identity of the murderer and Maliha Anderson takes on more depth. Her potential relationship with Mr. Crier, a British Secret Service agent, adds a new layer of interest to the story. How she solves two murders and protects a princess from Bali while appearing to be an ordinary person is very much an entertaining read. I would look forward to the next novella in the series.
